CEC distributes a comprehensive product line of phosphates manufactured by the Carus Corporation for municipal water systems. If you are concerned about Corrosion Control, Black Water/Red, or Scale Control in your water distribution system contact us. We will provide the experience and science behind choosing the right product for your water quality objectives.
CORROSION
The most pressing concern today for municipal water systems is the aging distribution system. Years of neglect have left many systems with corroded infrastructures that lead to a number of water quality and structural issues. Carus has a complete line of over 50 uniquely formulated phosphate blends designed to effectively control corrosion in a wide range of water quality. Carus provides the science behind controlling corrosion in your distribution system by choosing the right product for your water quality objectives. Carus products help clean, maintain and extend the life of system infrastructure including mains, service lines, valves, meters and household plumbing. Our corrosion programs are designed to provide a microscopic film formation on metal surfaces eliminating red water and ensuring compliance with EPA Lead and Copper regulations. The programs help to reduce lead and copper from leaching from lead service lines, copper plumbing with lead solder and household fixtures. In addition, the Carus corrosion programs can lower chlorine demand, lower pH requirements, improve C factors (flow) and yield more effective flushing programs.
BLACK WATER/RED
Potable and non-potable water can be adversely affected by elevated mineral content. Iron and manganese found in groundwater and surface water supplies have the potential to oxidize and create aesthetic and physical concerns for water utilities. In the presence of chlorine, elevated pH and extreme temperatures (hot water heaters, dishwashers, etc.) iron and manganese precipitate to form oxides in the distribution system.
Carus has developed a complete line of sodium and potassium-based phosphate blends that sequester high levels of minerals (Fe, Mn, Ca). The Carus polyphosphate blends create a ring like structure around the molecule to create compounds that are resistant to oxidation and precipitation. Carus polyphosphate blends utilize long chain threshold treatment technology to create extremely stable blends to keep mineral in solution over longer periods of time and in a variety of water quality conditions. The use of Carus polyphosphates blends eliminates red/brown water, cleans existing tuberculation, improves C- Factors (flow) and minimizes scale for in distribution system. Additional benefits include improved disinfection (lower chlorine demand), effective corrosion control at lower pH levels and improved flushing programs.
SCALE CONTROL
Potable and non-potable water can be adversely affected by high levels of calcium and magnesium (total hardness). The naturally occurring minerals have the potential to oxidize and create aesthetic and physical concerns for water utilities. The calcium or magnesium can deposit in distribution systems as a scale. Physically, this scale can restrict flow, plug water meters, and even block water lines in houses completely. Aesthetically the mineral deposits can lead to cloudy water and film formation in dishwashers and on household shower tubs and fixtures.
